Nucleic Acid Testing for COVID-19

SARS-CoV-2 is a novel coronavirus that has caused a worldwide outbreak of respiratory disease beginning in 2019. In this simulated medical test, we will use electrophoresis to detect the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in samples from patients with symptoms of COVID-19.

• Hands-on simulation of molecular testing for COVID-19

• Students learn about the characteristics of coronaviruses

• Electrophoresis is used to analyze simulated RT-PCR samples
