MGOP-14 (rat)

The rat melanin-concentrating hormone (MCH) gene encodes an additional putative protein named MCH-gene-overprinted-polypeptide that is coexpressed with pro-MCH derived peptides in the rat hypothalamus. MGOP was suggested to be the first example of a chimeric protein produced through an overprinting process in the neuroendocrine system.
